From Beneficiary to Business Owner: Thobile’s Journey Through the Street Store Token Program

Meet Thobile, a Street Store beneficiary from Shiaz. Using tokens earned through the programme, she completed our Work Ready course, then moved on to the Crop Production course to further build her skills. Thobile’s journey from beneficiary to skilled individual is exactly the kind of empowered transformation we love to see! This is a great example of co-ordinated pathways for development instead of isolated projects – where poverty is intersected by purpose. Here’s some stories that show this approach:

• Community members earn tokens by recycling or volunteering, which they use to choose clothing or “pay” for skills courses
• Outreach in Jabavu (Howick West) brought 26 new members into the program in March
• In February, 10 beneficiaries from the Street Store were enrolled in an Agriculture Training program
